For Hudson's fourth birthday he decided to collect toys for Children's Hospital instead of receiving presents from his friends. Yes, he made this decision all on his own. About a month before his party we were having dinner and I asked him what he would like for his birthday. He responded that he had a lot already and didn't really need any new toys. We often talk about Children's because Bennett spent some time there last year. I mentioned that the kids there sometimes don't have any toys or books from home, and that he should feel lucky. He then told John and I that we should bring them some. This is how the whole idea began, and he never looked back. When we went to deliver the toys/books/games to Children's he was beaming with pride. The woman that we gave them to gave Hudson and hug and let him pick out a Bennie Baby. As we were walking back to the car he told me "I like sharing with other kids, sometimes they give you a bird" the Beanie Baby he picked was a bird. I am a very proud mommy. Of course John and I want to give our kids everything, but we know that would be only a disservice to them. We want them to grow up knowing that birthdays aren't just about gifts, but about fun with friends and family.
